I've been working in tech support and want to move up. I'm looking at cloud certifications, specifically . Out of these, which skill pays fastest in America: Python, SQL, Excel, AWS? Is it better to be a generalist or a cloud specialist if I want a quick salary jump?

If you are already in IT support, AWS is your golden ticket to a "fast" salary jump. Cloud migration is a priority for almost every enterprise in America, and they are willing to pay a premium for people who can manage their infrastructure. A Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate cert can easily push your salary from the $50k range into the $90k-$100k range almost overnight. It is much faster than trying to become a proficient programmer in Python. The market demand for cloud skills is currently outstripping the supply, which is why the pay is so competitive.
AWS is definitely high-paying, but isn't it risky to focus solely on one provider? What happens if a company uses Azure or Google Cloud? Does the AWS knowledge transfer easily to those other platforms?
Go for the AWS cert. It's the most recognized cloud credential in the US right now and offers the most immediate path to a high-paying role for someone with an IT background.
Absolutely, Dorothy. I did my AWS Solutions Architect exam last year and had three job offers within a month. For anyone in America looking for a fast pay increase, cloud is the way to go.
Daniel, the core concepts of cloud computing—like virtualization, storage, and networking—are very similar across all providers. If you master AWS, picking up Azure or GCP is much faster. Most companies in the US recognize that an AWS-certified professional is a "cloud-native" thinker, which makes you valuable regardless of the specific stack they use. It’s about the architectural mindset as much as the specific tool.
