I am just starting my cloud journey and I'm torn between two paths. Is the standard Cloud Practitioner still the most in-demand skill to lead with, or should a complete beginner in the US jump straight into the new AI Practitioner exam to stay relevant with current trends? Which AWS certification should beginners start with to ensure the fastest hiring turnaround?

For a total beginner, the AWS Cloud Practitioner is still the most in-demand skill foundation because you can't understand AI services without knowing the underlying storage, compute, and networking. I started from a non-tech background last year and spent about four weeks on the CCP. It gave me the vocabulary to even understand what "serverless" meant before I moved into specialized AI training. Most US recruiters look for that foundational badge as a sign that you understand the shared responsibility model and cost management, which are critical in every enterprise role.
If I go for the Cloud Practitioner first, do you think that being the most in-demand skill will actually help me land a role, or is it just a stepping stone to the Associate levels?
Start with the Cloud Practitioner. It builds the confidence you need to tackle the harder exams that actually represent the most in-demand skill sets like DevOps or Security.
Michael is spot on. As Brenda mentioned, the vocabulary alone is worth the effort. It makes every subsequent certification study session much easier to digest.
Justin, it’s definitely a stepping stone. While it is the most in-demand skill for literacy, most "Cloud Engineer" jobs in the US want the Solutions Architect Associate. However, the CCP is vital for sales, marketing, and project management roles where you need to talk to devs. If you want to build things, take the CCP quickly just to get the basics down, then pivot immediately to the SAA to make yourself truly hirable in the current competitive market.
