I’m looking to get my first cloud certification and I'm stuck between the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900). I have a basic background in IT support but no hands-on cloud experience. Which ecosystem is more intuitive for a beginner, and which one currently has more entry-level job openings in the United States market for 2025?

If you are already familiar with the Windows ecosystem or your current company uses Office 365, Azure is often the more intuitive path. The AZ-900 is very beginner-friendly and integrates concepts you likely already know. However, AWS still holds the largest market share globally. Their Cloud Practitioner exam is the gold standard for foundational knowledge. If you want the broadest range of job opportunities, AWS is the way to go. But if you want a smoother transition from a corporate IT background, Azure’s integration with Active Directory and enterprise tools makes it a very strong contender for beginners.
Cynthia, that’s a great point, but don't you think the AWS documentation is significantly easier for a newcomer to navigate compared to the Microsoft Learn portal?
I chose AWS because most startups use it. It felt more "modern," and the free tier allowed me to experiment with EC2 and S3 without spending a dime during my study phase.
The AWS Free Tier is definitely a major selling point, Brandon! It really helps to get that hands-on experience without worrying about a massive bill at the end of the month.
Michael, many beginners actually find the AWS documentation a bit overwhelming because of the sheer number of services. Microsoft Learn has improved its gamified learning paths recently, which some find more engaging. That said, the community support for AWS is massive; if you run into an error, a solution is usually just one Google search away, which is a huge plus for a self-taught student.
