The question

I am about to start my PMP certification training journey next month. However, I work 50 hours a week. What are the biggest mistakes people make when balancing a heavy workload with this intense study schedule? I want to pass on my first attempt without burning out.

The biggest mistake is trying to memorize the inputs and outputs instead of understanding the flow of the processes. When you are tired after work, your brain won't retain dry data. Instead, try to relate each process to a project you are currently managing at your job. Also, do not skip the mock exams. Many people study for months but fail because they aren't prepared for the stamina required for a four-hour test. Schedule your study blocks early in the morning before your emails start rolling in; that's when your focus is highest and your energy is still fresh.

Have you looked into joining a local study group or an online forum to keep yourself accountable during those weeks when work gets especially busy?

Study groups are a lifesaver. Having others to discuss complex topics with helps reinforce the material much faster than solo reading ever could for me.

Consistency is everything. Even if it is just 30 minutes a day, don't let a day go by without looking at the material or doing a few practice questions.

Angela is right. Breaking it into small chunks makes the massive amount of information feel way less overwhelming when you have a busy job.
