My team is spread across the US, Europe, and India. We are currently using Jira, but it feels too cluttered for our needs. Are there lighter alternatives that still offer robust Scrum boards, backlogs, and integration with Slack for better real-time communication?

If Jira feels too heavy, I highly recommend looking at Linear or ClickUp. Linear is specifically designed for high-performance software teams and is incredibly fast. It strips away the enterprise bloat of Jira while keeping the essential Agile features. For cross-time-zone work, ensure whatever tool you pick has a strong 'Asynchronous' focus. You need clear documentation and thread-based comments so that the team in India knows exactly what happened in the US stand-up without having to watch a 30-minute recording. We made the switch last year and our overhead dropped by 20%.
Susan, Linear is great, but does it handle Resource Allocation well for multi-project managers? One issue I have with 'lighter' tools is that they often lack the 'Big Picture' portfolio view that Jira’s Advanced Roadmaps provide. How do you track dependencies between different teams?
Don't overlook Trello with 'Power-Ups.' You can add Scrum features like story points and burndown charts easily while keeping the interface very simple and visual for everyone.
I agree with Mary. Trello is great for smaller teams. However, as you scale past 20 people, you might find you need the more structured hierarchy that Susan mentioned earlier.
Daniel, for dependencies in Linear, you can use their 'Relations' feature to link issues across different teams. While it doesn't have a traditional Gantt chart out of the box, the 'Roadmaps' feature gives a very clean high-level view of how different streams of work are progressing. It’s much more intuitive than the complex configuration Jira requires for the same view.
