My team is fully remote and spread across three continents. We are currently using Trello, but it feels too simple for our growing complexity. Should we move to Asana, Monday.com, or Jira? We need something that handles resource leveling and time tracking effectively across time zones.

If you are dealing with resource leveling and complex dependencies, Jira is likely your best bet, especially if you have a technical team. It’s highly customizable and has robust reporting for velocity and capacity. However, if your team is more creative or marketing-focused, Monday.com offers a much better visual interface and is easier to set up for non-technical users. Both integrate well with time-tracking tools like Harvest or Toggl. The key for remote teams is the "single source of truth," so whichever tool you pick, ensure every communication happens within the task comments.
Have you considered the learning curve for your team? Moving from Trello to Jira is a massive jump in complexity. Do you have someone who can act as the administrator to set up the workflows properly for everyone?
Asana is the perfect middle ground. It’s more powerful than Trello but much more intuitive than Jira. Their "Workload" view is specifically designed for the resource leveling you mentioned.
I agree with Nancy. Asana’s timeline view is excellent for remote teams to see how their individual tasks contribute to the larger project milestones in real-time.
Brian, that's a great point. When we switched, we appointed one "Power User" who spent a week mastering the automation features. This prevented the rest of the team from getting frustrated with the new UI, and it made the transition much smoother for our overseas developers.
