I started studying for the capm certification using some older materials, but I just realized the new exam format includes a huge chunk of Business Analysis. How deep do I need to go into BA frameworks to pass? Is it just definitions, or are there complex situational questions involving requirement elicitation and stakeholder mapping like in the higher-level certs?

The update to the capm certification was significant—Business Analysis Frameworks now make up roughly 27% of the exam. You don't need to be an expert BA, but you absolutely must understand the lifecycle of a requirement. The exam will test your knowledge on how to identify stakeholders, elicit requirements through various techniques (like brainstorming or interviews), and how to manage the "Product Backlog" in an adaptive environment. Don't rely on old 6th Edition materials! Make sure your prep course covers the collaboration between the Project Manager and the Business Analyst, as that’s a key theme in the current situational questions.
Do you think the BA section is harder than the Agile section for the capm certification?
Focus on the "Why" behind each BA task. If you understand why we document a requirement, the capm certification questions become much clearer.
Exactly, Laura. Understanding the "value" of each process is the secret sauce for any PMI exam, especially the capm certification.
For me, the Agile part is more intuitive, while the BA part feels more technical with all the different diagrams and traceability matrices. I’m spending extra time on those specific capm certification chapters now to make sure I don't lose easy points.
