I’m currently helping a mid-sized fintech startup migrate their legacy infrastructure. We are debating between AWS, Microsoft Azure, and GCP. AWS seems to have the most services, but Azure’s integration with Windows environments is tempting, and GCP’s data analytics tools are top-tier. For a company focusing on rapid scaling and security compliance, which provider offers the most seamless experience for a small DevOps team?

In my experience leading migrations for financial services, AWS remains the gold standard for sheer reliability and the depth of its "Well-Architected Framework." However, do not overlook Azure if your stack is heavily reliant on .NET or Active Directory; the licensing discounts through the Azure Hybrid Benefit can save a startup significant capital. If your roadmap is data-heavy, GCP’s BigQuery is arguably the most user-friendly for scaling analytics without a massive data engineering team. For a small DevOps team, I’d prioritize the provider with the best local talent pool and documentation.
Have you looked into the specific compliance certifications each one offers for the fintech sector, like PCI-DSS or SOC2, and how much of that is automated through their native security tools?
I’d go with GCP for the developer experience. Their interface is much cleaner than AWS’s console, and their Kubernetes engine (GKE) is still the best in the market for containerized apps.
I definitely agree with James here. If the startup is already using Kubernetes, GKE’s auto-repair and auto-upgrade features significantly reduce the operational burden on a small DevOps team.
David, that’s a crucial point. AWS has the "Artifact" portal which makes pulling these reports very simple. For a fintech startup, having that audit trail ready to go can save weeks of manual work. Azure also has "Blueprints" which can help deploy a compliant environment from day one, which might be even better for a small team that lacks a dedicated security officer.
