I have been pursuing a few virtual certifications recently, but I am finding it incredibly tough to stay engaged. It feels like the biggest problem with online learning right now is the complete lack of real-time peer collaboration and team problem-solving. We just watch videos and answer multiple-choice questions alone. How can we make this process feel less isolating and more interactive?

I completely agree with your observation here. In my experience completing an advanced Scrum Master course, the biggest missing link was the spontaneous whiteboard brainstorming we used to do in physical classrooms. Most platforms treat this medium as a content dumping ground rather than a dynamic sandbox. To get around this, a few classmates and I started our own Slack channel to run mock sprint retrospectives weekly. It changed everything for us and helped us actually absorb the material instead of just memorizing the slides.
Do you think the root issue is the way the platforms are designed, or is it that instructors are not trained to run synchronous breakout sessions effectively?
The isolation is real. I highly recommend finding external discord communities dedicated to your specific certification domain to find study partners.
That is an excellent point, Melissa. Joining those external communities or finding local meetups can completely replace the missing social aspect of a course. It also opens up networking opportunities with professionals who are actively working in the industry, which adds way more value than a standard comment section.
Charles, it is honestly a mix of both. Many learning management systems lack native, seamless breakout tools, which forces instructors to jump through technical hoops. However, a lot of educators also just copy-paste their traditional lectures into a video call without redesigning the curriculum for a digital environment, which inevitably kills student interaction.
