How is Cyber Security changing now that hackers are using AI to write polymorphic malware?

The question

I’m a student in Cyber Security, and the news is terrifying. AI can now generate phishing emails that are indistinguishable from real ones and code malware that changes its signature to evade detection. If the "bad guys" have AI, can human defenders even keep up? Is this field going to become just a battle of "My AI vs. Your AI"?

Do you think we’ll see a shift where "AI Ethics" becomes a mandatory part of our Cyber Security training?

Absolutely, Douglas. Understanding the "adversarial" side of AI is crucial. We need to learn how to "poison" the data hackers might use to train their tools. Cyber Security will soon be as much about data science as it is about networking and firewalls.

AI is a tool for us too. Automated patch management and log analysis save me hours every single week.

Exactly, Monica. It frees us up for the deep forensic work that really matters. The "boring" stuff is being handled by the bots now.

It’s definitely an arms race. In Cyber Security, we are already using AI for "User and Entity Behavior Analytics" (UEBA) to spot the tiny deviations that signify a breach. The human element is shifting toward "Threat Hunting"—proactively looking for what the AI missed. While the AI can block 99% of known patterns, the 1% of creative, novel attacks still requires a human who can think like a hacker. The demand for security pros is actually skyrocketing because the stakes have never been higher for businesses.
