I am 35 and worried about ageism. Is it too late to switch into a tech career at this stage? I’m looking for advice from others who have made a mid-life pivot into domains like Cloud Technology or Cyber Security and how they handled the transition into a junior-level salary.

It is absolutely not too late. In fact, many companies value the maturity and project management skills that mid-career professionals bring when they switch into a tech career. To mitigate the salary drop, look for "Analyst" or "Consultant" roles where your previous industry knowledge is a functional asset. For example, if you were in finance, pivot into FinOps or Cloud Cost Management. Your domain expertise combined with a new technical certification like AWS Cloud Practitioner makes you more valuable than a 22-year-old who only knows the technical side but doesn't understand the business impact.
Did you find that you had to revamp your entire resume style to get noticed by tech recruiters? Also, did you focus on a specific vendor certification to prove your technical competency quickly to skeptical hiring managers?
The biggest risk is losing confidence. The first few months will feel like drinking from a firehose, but stay consistent. Your "soft skills" from your previous 10 years of work are your secret weapon.
I agree with Kimberly. I felt like an imposter for the first six months after I made the move, but I realized my ability to manage deadlines was actually better than most of the senior devs!
I had to move my "Skills" section to the very top and lead with my GitHub projects. Once I added my Azure Fundamentals cert, the recruiter calls started coming in much more frequently than when I just had "self-taught" on there.
