When should a startup transition from purely Organic to a Paid Social Strategy?

The question

We’ve built a decent following of 2,000 people organically, but our growth has hit a plateau. Is this the right time to start experimenting with paid social media ads? What’s the minimum budget we should start with, and should we focus on boosting existing posts or creating entirely new ad sets from scratch?

You've reached the perfect "proof of concept" stage. Since you have 2,000 followers, you have enough data to create a "Lookalike Audience." This is the best way to transition. Take your top-performing organic post—the one with the most comments and saves—and put a small budget behind it ($10-$20 a day) to "Boost" it to people similar to your followers. This ensures you aren't guessing what works; you're simply amplifying a message that has already been validated by your current community.

Before she spends any money, shouldn't she ensure her "Conversion Funnel" and landing pages are fully optimized to handle the new traffic she'll be paying for?

Spot on, William. There is no point in paying for clicks if your website takes 5 seconds to load or doesn't have a clear Call to Action. I always tell clients to do a "user journey" audit on their mobile site before turning on any paid campaigns. Paid traffic is much less patient than organic followers who already know and like your brand.

Start small. You don't need a massive agency budget. Even $5 a day on a well-targeted Instagram ad can show you if your product-market fit is ready for scaling.

Agreed, Barbara. Testing with small amounts helps you find the winning "creative" before you commit to a larger monthly ad spend.
