I’ve started studying for the PMP exam but I am struggling with the time management aspect. 230 minutes for 180 situational questions seems brutal. What is the best strategy to build stamina? Should I focus on mock exams or memorizing the ITTOs from the PMBOK Guide?

Stop trying to memorize ITTOs! The modern PMP exam is almost 100% situational. You need to develop the "PMI Mindset." My strategy in early 2024 was to take at least five full-length mock exams to build mental endurance. I used a "75-75-80" minute split for the three sections, which left me some buffer time. During the actual test, if a question takes more than 75 seconds, flag it and move on. Understanding the "Servant Leadership" concept is critical because most of the People domain questions expect you to choose the most collaborative and empowering answer for the team.
Heather, when you say focus on the "PMI Mindset," did you find that the actual exam questions were more vague than the popular simulators available online?
Mock exams are your best friend. They train your brain to stay focused for four hours straight. Don't skip the two 10-minute breaks provided; they are lifesavers for your eyes.
Totally agree, Brian. Taking those breaks allowed me to reset. I used the time to stretch and drink water, which definitely helped me stay sharp for the final 60 questions.
Steven, that is a common concern. The real exam questions can feel a bit more wordy, but the logic remains consistent. Simulators help you identify patterns, like recognizing when a question is asking about a Change Request versus an Issue Log update. Once you spot the keyword, the "vague" parts of the scenario matter much less for finding the right answer.
