I keep hearing about the "cyber gap." If I’m looking for the most in-demand skill, is it worth starting with an AWS Security cert even if I’m a beginner? Which AWS certification should beginners start with if they want to focus specifically on the high-paying security sector from day one without wasting time on generalist paths?

While Security is the most in-demand skill, you cannot take the Specialty exam as a complete beginner. You need to understand the services you are trying to secure first. I recommend starting with the Cloud Practitioner to get your bearings, then the Solutions Architect Associate to understand the "build," and then the Security Specialty. I’ve seen people try to jump straight to Security and they fail because they don't understand basic networking or identity management in a cloud context. In the US, a "Security Specialist" who doesn't understand the underlying architecture is actually a liability, not an asset.
If the most in-demand skill is security, are there any entry-level "bridge" certs that combine basic cloud knowledge with a security-first mindset to speed up the process?
Security is a marathon, not a sprint. The most in-demand skill is the ability to see vulnerabilities that others miss, and that only comes with foundational experience.
Exactly, Jeffrey. As Cynthia said, you have to know how the building is constructed before you can be the person in charge of the locks.
Stephen, the SAA is actually that bridge. It’s the most in-demand skill because it teaches you how to design "secure" systems by default. If you focus your SAA studies heavily on the "Security" pillar of the Well-Architected Framework, you’ll be in a great position. Most US companies hiring for junior security roles are perfectly happy with an SAA holder who has a strong interest in security, as they know they can train you on the specific tools later.
