No Formal Prerequisites: There are no educational or experience requirements to take the TOGAF 9 certification exam.4

What is the difference between TOGAF 9 Foundation and TOGAF 9 Certified? ▾
Foundation (Level 1) validates that you know the terminology and basic concepts. It's a memory test. Certified (Level 2) validates that you can analyze and apply that knowledge to solve problems. You need both to be a fully TOGAF 9 Certified professional.
How much does the TOGAF 9 exam cost? ▾
The exam pricing varies by country, but typically the TOGAF 9 Combined (Part 1 and 2) exam costs around $550 USD. If you take them separately, you pay more (approx $360 USD each). We strongly advise taking the combined exam to save money and time.
What is the passing score for the TOGAF 9 certification exam? ▾
For Part 1 (Foundation), you need 55% (22 out of 40 questions). It is closed book. For Part 2 (Certified), you need 60% (24 out of 40 points).6 Part 2 is open book, but don't get complacent - the questions are complex scenarios where you must choose the best answer.
Should I take TOGAF 9 or TOGAF 10? ▾
TOGAF 10 is the newer version, but TOGAF 9 remains the most widely adopted version in the industry and is still fully valid. Many legacy contracts and large Indian enterprises still mandate version 9 specifically. Our course covers the core principles that apply to both, but focuses on getting you the current TOGAF 9 credential which is widely recognized.
Is the Part 2 exam really "open book"? ▾
Yes, but there is a catch. You have access to a PDF of the TOGAF standard built into the exam software. However, the search function is often clunky, and time is tight. If you rely on looking up every answer, you will fail. You need to know the material; the book is only for quick verification.
What happens if I fail one part of the Combined exam? ▾
If you fail Part 1 but pass Part 2, you fail the whole attempt. If you pass Part 1 but fail Part 2, you keep the credit for Part 1 and only need to retake Part 2. You must wait one month before retaking the exam.
How long is the TOGAF 9 certification valid? ▾
The certification is valid indefinitely. Unlike PMP or others that require constant PDUs and renewal fees every three years, once you are TOGAF 9 Certified, you keep the title. It is a permanent asset on your resume.
Can I take the exam online or do I need to go to a center? ▾
You can take it via OnVUE (online proctoring) or at a Pearson VUE test center.7 We strongly recommend the test center. The online proctors are extremely strict about your environment, and any internet fluctuation can void your exam. Centers in Apple Valley, MN, are safer.
Do I need to be a member of The Open Group to take the exam? ▾
No. You do not need to be a member. You just need to create a free account on The Open Group website to register for the exam via Pearson VUE.
What are the prerequisites for the training? ▾
There are no official prerequisites. However, having some exposure to IT infrastructure, software development, or business analysis will make the concepts much easier to grasp.
How many questions are on the TOGAF 9 certification exam? ▾
Part 1 has 40 multiple-choice questions (simple pass/fail).8 Part 2 has 8 complex scenario questions. In Part 2, answers are graded on a gradient: 5 points for the best answer, 3 for the second best, 1 for the third, and 0 for the distracter.
Is this certification useful for non-IT professionals? ▾
It is primarily for IT professionals, but Business Architects and Strategy Consultants also benefit heavily. If your role involves bridging the gap between business goals and technical implementation, this is the gold standard.
How does the "Combined" exam work? ▾
You sit for Part 1 (60 minutes). Once you finish or time runs out, you immediately start Part 2 (90 minutes). You cannot go back to Part 1 once Part 2 starts. It is a marathon session, which is why our simulators are crucial for building stamina.
What study materials are best for the exam? ▾
The official TOGAF 9 Standard documentation is the bible. However, it is hundreds of pages of dry technical text. Our course provides condensed study guides, "pocket guides," and cheat sheets that distill this down to exactly what you need to pass.
