Power BI is software created by Microsoft. It helps individuals to get a better idea of data by transforming it into easy-to-see colorful graphs, charts, and dashboards. Rather than viewing cluttered numbers and tables, Power BI helps one to view graphics easily.
Suppose you have a lemonade stand and you wish to see how much money you earned last week. Rather than looking at every sale individually, Power BI can present you with a bar chart of how much money you earned per day. It's easy to understand information at a glance and have fun with it.
Why You Should Learn Power BI ?
Learning Power BI is beneficial to anyone who has to work with data—whether you're a student, teacher, business owner, or even a coach for a sports team. Nowadays, nearly every career uses some form of data. Power BI assists you to:
• Spot patterns and trends
• Make better choices
• Automate reports to save time.
• Tell others about what you have learned in a nutshell
For instance, a student could use Power BI to track student grades. A store manager could use it to view what is selling the most. A student could use it to display research findings for the science fair.
Key Features of Power BI
1. Begin Early
Power BI is easy to get started with. You can sign up for free and view your data instantly. No complicated software to install and hours of training needed. It also includes pre-built dashboards for top services such as Google Analytics and Salesforce. This allows you to begin learning from your data within minutes.
2. Use Information From Anywhere
Your information can be saved in Excel spreadsheets, databases, websites, or cloud storage such as OneDrive or Google Drive. Power BI can link to a variety of data sources. No matter where your information resides, Power BI can bring it all together in one location.
3. Fix Problems Right Away
Power BI employs "real-time dashboards." What it means is you can see at once when anything happens—sales declining or acquiring a new client.
This enables you to fix problems in a timely fashion. For instance, if sales are slow on a particular day, you can act quickly and make a change before it becomes a major issue.
4. Content Packs
Power BI has something called "Content Packs." These are pre-tuned collections of data sources, reports, and dashboards that let you start quickly with a particular service. For example, if you are working with QuickBooks, you can utilize a content pack to instantly view the company finances.
5. Print Dashboards
You might also want a hard copy of your reports for meeting or for class presentations. Power BI enables you to print your dashboards so that you can present your results in person.
6. Phrase questions in your own words.
One of the most user-friendly things about Power BI is that you can type something like: "What were my best-selling products last year?" and Power BI will give you an answer in chart or graph form. It's like searching with a search engine, but on your own data!
7. Customized Graphs and Charts
Each user or business is unique. Power BI lets you utilize various chart, map, and visual types that best suit your data. You can even download other users' newly created visual types.
8. DAX – A Robust Formula Language
Power BI uses a formula language called DAX (Data Analysis Expressions). It contains more than 200 built-in functions for advanced calculations. Don't panic—you don't need to learn them all at once! As you get more experienced, these functions will assist you in building better data models.
9. Access Data Easily
Power BI Desktop can retrieve data from a lot of locations—whether data resides on your machine or in the cloud. It doesn't matter whether the data is in structured form (such as rows and columns) or unstructured form (such as images or documents). Additional data sources are added each month.
10. Stay in Touch While Traveling
You don't need to be sitting at your desk to view your data. Power BI supports Android phone apps, iPhone apps, and Windows apps. You can view reports, get alerts, and make decisions remotely.
11. Integrate Power BI with Other Software
If you are a programmer, you can use something called an API (Application Programming Interface) to link Power BI to your website or existing application. This allows businesses to integrate Power BI capabilities into the existing applications.
New Power BI Features (Released in January)
Microsoft updates Power BI on a regular basis to improve it. Some of the amazing new features that were added recently are:
1. Hide Report Pages
Sometimes you might want to share just part of a report. Power BI now allows you to hide a handful of pages before sharing. Right-click on a page tab and select "Hide." Hidden pages will not appear to others, but you will still be able to see them while editing.
2. Alter Label Backgrounds
You can now set labels on charts and maps to your preferred background color. Your graphics thus look more pleasing, and people can read your labels more easily.
3. Adjust space between bars.
You now have an option for how far apart bars are in a bar chart. You can make them more or less separated, depending on how you want it to appear.
4. More Room for Axis Labels
If your bottom or side labels in your chart are getting cut off, you don't have to enlarge the whole chart. There is a new feature where you can enlarge the label space without enlarging the whole chart.
5. Ask "Top N" in Q&A
Power BI's natural language capability is now capable of interpreting questions such as "What are my top 3 best-selling products?" or "Top 5 departments by performance." It gives immediate and accurate and visual responses to such questions.
