Does your Cyber Security policy include an AI detector check?

The question

We are updating our internal security protocols and I’m pushing for an AI detector to be used on all external-facing reports. With the rise of phishing and social engineering, I feel that knowing if a document is AI-generated is a vital security layer. Has anyone successfully implemented this as part of a formal security or compliance framework recently?

We integrated a high-end AI detector into our SOC workflow last year, and it has been eye-opening. We use it to scan incoming vendor communications and even some of our internal auditing reports. The reality is that automated threats are getting smarter, and using AI to catch AI is the only way to stay ahead. By 2025, I expect this will be a standard requirement for ISO certifications. It adds a critical verification step that ensures the data we are looking at was actually compiled by a human analyst who can be held accountable for the findings.

Do you find that these detectors ever flag legitimate encrypted or highly structured data as being artificial?

That’s a valid concern, Gregory. We did have some issues with log files being flagged by the AI detector initially. To solve this, we created an exclusion list for specific data formats. The focus is really on the narrative parts of the security reports where human judgment is most important. It’s definitely a tool that requires some fine-tuning to avoid slowing down the team’s response time.

It seems like a lot of work for a small benefit. Most phishing is easy to spot without a tool.

Megan, while basic phishing is obvious, advanced "spear phishing" in 2025 is becoming incredibly sophisticated. Every extra layer of defense helps protect the organization.
