Will the demand for standard full stack developers fall as AI model deployment grows?

The question

I am currently managing a content strategy website focused on IT certifications, and we see massive search traffic regarding career transformations. Tech professionals are genuinely anxious about whether AI engineering replacing traditional software engineering trends will make routine full-stack web creation obsolete. If automation engines can generate clean HTML, CSS, and basic backend scripts instantly from a text layout description, what unique value will a traditional software engineering professional bring to product teams?

The unique value of a human developer lies in user empathy, strategic product design, and creative problem-solving capabilities that algorithms cannot duplicate. While an automation tool can generate standard UI components instantly, it doesn't understand why a feature should exist or how it aligns with human behavior. Full-stack developers who embrace these modern tools are becoming hyper-productive architects who can deliver highly customized corporate systems without getting bogged down by repetitive boilerplate syntax, increasing their market value significantly.

If routine code generation is handled by models, does this mean tech companies will completely shrink the size of their engineering departments down to just a few senior architects?

Department structures might see adjustments, but history shows that when the cost of building software drops, companies simply choose to build much more software. The demand shifts from basic programming toward managing complex system interactions, meaning development teams will focus on broader feature sets and deeper optimization projects.

The role is simply shifting from manual line-by-line typing to advanced system refinement, code validation, and ensuring proper cross-platform compatibility.

Exactly, the core focus is moving higher up the stack. Mastering prompt interaction and output auditing is becoming just as critical as knowing language syntax.
