I'm looking to pivot into a new career quickly. Between learning Python, SQL, Excel, and AWS, which skill actually pays the fastest in America for someone starting from scratch? I need something that doesn't take years to master but has a high starting median salary in the current 2025 job market.

From my experience in recruitment, AWS is currently the fastest path to a six-figure salary. While Excel and SQL are foundational, a Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect certification can be earned in months and immediately qualifies you for roles starting around $85,000 to $100,000. Python is great but often requires a deeper portfolio to land high-paying dev roles. If you want speed, go cloud.
Are you considering combining these? Most high-paying AWS roles actually require you to know at least basic SQL for data management, don't they?
Excel is the "fastest" to learn, but the ceiling is lower. Python and AWS are the heavy hitters for long-term wealth in the US.
Agreed. I’d add that AWS specifically has a massive talent shortage right now, which is why companies are willing to pay a premium even for junior associates.
You're spot on, Jeffrey. While the AWS cert gets you through the door, having SQL in your toolkit makes you a much more attractive candidate for Cloud Data Engineer roles. It’s the combination that really accelerates the hiring process and increases the starting offer.
