I am looking into ways to automate my risk register updates. Does anyone have experience using Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) to predict potential project bottlenecks or risks based on previous project data? I’m specifically interested in how it handles PMP-style risk assessment frameworks.

I’ve experimented with feeding anonymized project schedules into Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) to see if it catches dependencies I might have overlooked. It’s surprisingly good at identifying "likely" risks like vendor delays or resource contention during peak holiday seasons. While it doesn't replace a proper Risk Management Plan, it’s a fantastic brainstorming partner during the planning phase. Just ensure you are following your organization's data privacy policies before uploading any proprietary information.
Do you think it can replace the qualitative analysis we do manually? I feel like the "probability and impact" scores it gives are often quite generic and don't reflect local project nuances.
It’s helpful for drafting risk mitigation strategies. It gives you a lot of ideas quickly that you can then tailor to your specific project needs.
I agree, Karen. It’s much faster than starting from a blank template every time. Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) really helps with the heavy lifting.
Gary, you're right. The scores are often averages of its training data. I use Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini) only to generate the initial list of risks, then I hold a workshop with my team to assign the actual impact scores based on our specific environment and past performance.
