How to migrate VMs between UCS domains?

The question

We are setting up a second data center with its own UCS domain. What is the best way to migrate our VMware VMs between them? Since they are separate UCS domains, I assume this is just a standard vMotion, but is there any specific network configuration I need on the Fabric Interconnects to make it work?

Verified summary

Migrating VMs between separate UCS domains requires a shared Layer 2 network path between sites and compatible EVC modes in vCenter to enable live vMotion across different clusters.

A standard vMotion will fail between independent UCS domains because they inhabit different vCenter clusters and lack shared Layer 2 adjacency for the VMkernel ports. You need to verify that your EVC modes align and that you have a stretched Layer 2 network path between the two data centers, or you are effectively looking at a cold migration rather than a live vMotion.
