Looking for Texas based peers to study Cyber Security before you drop your resume at Austin firms?

The question

Is anyone in the Dallas or Austin area currently studying for the CISSP or CompTIA Security+? I want to find a partner to go through the domains of network security and risk management. I am planning to drop your resume for several cybersecurity analyst roles next month and would love to sharpen my knowledge with someone local who understands the Texas job market requirements.

The cybersecurity landscape in Texas is booming right now, especially in the Austin tech corridor. When you get ready to drop your resume, having a solid grasp of cloud security and incident response is critical. I spent six months studying for my CISSP last year and found that joining a study group helped me tackle the more abstract concepts like security governance and legal regulations. In 2025, firms are looking for people who don't just know the tools, but understand the underlying architecture. I highly recommend using labs to practice your skills alongside your theoretical study sessions.

I’m in Houston and just started my Security+ journey; would you be open to doing weekend Zoom sessions to cover the encryption and cryptography modules?

Jeffrey, that sounds like a plan. Cryptography is one of the tougher sections for me, so having someone to talk through the different algorithms would be very helpful. We can quiz each other on asymmetric versus symmetric encryption to ensure we are fully prepared. Once we master these technicalities, it will be much easier to drop your resume with confidence for those high-paying analyst positions.

I just moved to Austin and I am looking for study buddies too. The local networking events here are great for finding out which companies are currently hiring.

Welcome to Austin, Sandra! You’re right, the local meetups are perfect for getting the inside scoop on which firms are looking for new security talent.
