How to effectively manage feature stores in a scalable way?

Feature stores are a hot topic, but when is it actually worth the cost and complexity to implement one? We are growing our number of models, and the code for feature engineering is getting repetitive and inconsistent. Does a feature store really help with deployment velocity, or does it just add another layer of maintenance? I would love to hear from someone who has successfully integrated one into an agile setup.
